Support This Noble Doctor In His Mission To Uplift The Lives of Beggars And Destitutes

Amid the bustling streets and sacred places in Pune, a man with a heavy bag, clad in a white coat and a stethoscope around his neck, walks with a purpose. Dr. Abhijit Sonawane is not your typical physician; he is a healer of a different kind. “Being a doctor is not just a matter of profession but that of attitude,” he says, reflecting on his unique calling.

Determined to make a difference, Dr. Sonawane resigned from his job in an international medical organization in 2015 to dedicate his life to free poor people from their illnesses through the Soham Trust, along with his wife, Dr Manisha Sonawane.

Despite the challenges, Dr. Sonawane’s work has transformed the lives of 175 beggars over eight years. However, the journey is far from over. To continue and expand his efforts, he dreams of establishing a training center to upskill beggars and put an end to begging.

He needs your help to continue his mission

Support Nammane Summane Trust To Start A New Shelter Home

“I had rescued a girl who had gone through the absolute worst in her life until then. Her stepmother had sold her for money, and every day, 10-15 men forced themselves on her. When we found her, she didn’t have any clothes on; she was still in shock. But when I took her in and comforted her, I knew I had to take care of her like a mother. I knew that this was not just me rescuing the abandoned but something much bigger,” – Nakshatra shares with tears in her eyes.

In 2020, amidst the challenges of the global pandemic, Nakshatra founded the NGO Nammane Summane where there is no division of gender and class, and everybody is welcome.

Nakshatra is not just fighting for her own life but is committed to providing a safe haven for those who have nowhere else to turn. Nammane Summane currently shelters 150 needy people. They include the elderly, orphans, and disabled, who need medicine and food. But it’s tough to get enough money for all the expenses. Help Nakshatra take care of her family and those who have nowhere else to go.

‘Forgotten in their twilight years, they are left to fend for themselves’
Homeless Care Foundation's sole aim was to feed and care for helpless elderly individuals who had no one else to care for them. Many of these elders were either paralyzed, disabled or over the age of 75, unable to cook food due to illness. They were the forgotten ones, left to fend for themselves in the twilight of their lives.
